Nelson Serra

Born in Areal, a small village in the Caramulo mountains of central Portugal, Fiamma's founder Nelson Serra took a big step into becoming a successful businessman.

He saw his chance when he had the opportunity to work in a company of catering equipment.

RST is founded

When José Soares Miranda identified the potential of young Nelson Serra, his collaborator, he quickly invited him to become his partner in a wholesale business in the spare parts industry.

Business went so well that, in 1977, Nelson Serra decided to open a factory. It produced small electric parts - battery chargers, lights, switches, among others. This company was called RST, its name deriving from the three-phase electric power (R, S and T). Very creative.

It was a known fact that the Italians had a good name in the coffee universe, and so a brand was created to appeal to this origin of the espresso coffee machine. Fiamma was born, a brand with a burning "flame", literally associated with the passion and drive to achieve incredible things.

At full steam

The production of the first machines kicked off at full steam, and soon the company focussed on diversifying its product portfolio and gaining new markets, in order to cross the first "Cape of Good Hope", in the long journey of a newly created factory.

1986

With Portugal's entry in the European Union, a period of strong growth started, with constant business trips to Asia and America, celebrating new deals.

Seas never sailed before

During their maritime epics, Portuguese navigators managed to reach new places and discover new routes. That is how, today, the sea and navigators serve as inspiration for the creation of Fiamma machines.

Building the Future

Fiamma's first international branch was built precisely in Brazil. Still in the 90's, the company continued to expand with several international fairs in Chicago, Paris, Toronto and many others.

Pedro Serra, born two days before the company was founded and who had spent his childhood in the corridors of the factory, joins the company, bringing a new vision. Quickly, Fiamma set sails for exporting and creating representations on all 5 continents.

After the first presence at the HOST Milan in 2003, Fiamma started to be a regular exhibitor at the main trade events of the sector, with shows from Singapore to Dubai, Seattle to Shanghai, conquering coffee machine lovers and coffee people from all over the world.

In 2013, Fiamma fully embraced technological innovation, making its R&D a pillar of its strategy.
